Mercoledì 2 dicembre alle ore 20.30 Trieste is Rock, in collaborazione con Good Vibrations, porta in concerto al Teatro Miela di Trieste Operation: Mindcrime, il nuovo progetto del leggendario cantante dei Queensrÿche, Geoff Tate. Universalmente riconosciuto come uno dei più grandi frontman nel mondo del rock e del metal, è stato la forza trascinatrice dietro ad una band innovativa come i Queensrÿche, in pista dagli anni Ottanta: ne è stato leader per più di trent’anni e con loro ha venduto più di 25 milioni di dischi. Il solo album «Empire» del 1990 vendette più di tre milioni di copie grazie a hit singoli e tormentoni radiofonici come “Silent Lucidity” e “Jet City Woman”. A settembre è uscito il disco di debutto, «The Key», il primo capitolo di quella che è stata annunciata come una trilogia epica da Tate stesso, che dice: “Musicalmente quest’album è piuttosto avventuroso”. Su disco tantissimi grandi nomi hanno affiancato Tate: i bassisti Dave Ellefson [Megadeth, Metal Allegiance] e John Moyer [Disturbed, Adrenaline Mob], i batteristi Simon Wright [AC/DC, Dio], Scott Mercado [Candlebox] e Brian Tichy [Billy Idol, Ozzy Osbourne], i chitarristi Kelly Gray [Queensrÿche] e Scott Moughton [Geoff Tate], i tastieristi Randy Gane [Myth] ed il cantante Mark Daly [The Voodoos].
Tate, come definirebbe il sound degli Operation: Mindcrime?
Geoff Tate: «Ho passato più di trent’anni a scrivere musica per i Queensryche, così nel mio nuovo progetto OMC, ci sono similitudini naturalmente, ma direi che la mia nuova musica tende di più verso lo stile progressive rock. Il mio motto è: “Nessun limite”».
Perché ha scelto il nome Operation: Mindcrime per questo progetto?
«Volevo un nome che fosse già familiare ai miei fan, e volevo un nome che desse un’indicazione della musica che faccio ora, che è un progressive rock concettuale e narrativo».

The iconic metal vocalist Geoff Tate is universally acknowledged as one of the greatest frontmen in rock and metal, and a driving force behind one of the most innovative bands in mainstream music. He rose to fame in the 1980s with the progressive metal band Queensrÿche (he has sold more than 25 million records with the band he fronted for 30 years; the album «Empire» of 1990, sold more than three million albums on the back of hit singles and radio staples “Silent Lucidity” and “Jet City Woman”). He named his new project after the Queensrÿche album of the same name, the masterpiece “Operation: Mindcrime” (1988, Platinum in 1991). Operation: Mindcrime is a creative platform that continues in the spirit of the historic album, spawning concepts as grand as the music.Their debut album «The Key» (released on September the 18th) is part one of an epic musical trilogy from Geoff Tate; “Musically, this album is quite adventurous”, he says. Joining Tate on «The Key» are a hard hitting cast of familiar faces and new collaborators: bass players Dave Ellefson [Megadeth, Metal Allegiance] and John Moyer [Disturbed, Adrenaline Mob], drummers Simon Wright [AC/DC, Dio], Scott Mercado [Candlebox] and Brian Tichy [Billy Idol, Ozzy Osbourne], guitarists Kelly Gray [Queensrÿche] and Scott Moughton [Geoff Tate], keyboardist Randy Gane [Myth] and vocalist Mark Daly [The Voodoos]. I would like to ask you how would you define the sound of Operation: Mindcrime.
«I spent 30 plus years writing music under the name Queensryche so in my new project OMC, there will be similarities of course but my new music leans more in the Progressive Rock style. My motto is “NO LIMITS”».
