Il cantante metal Geoff Tate è universalmente riconosciuto come uno dei più grandi frontman nel mondo del rock e del metal, quattro ottave di estensione vocale e un’energia dirompente. È stato la forza trascinatrice dietro ad una band innovativa come i Queensrÿche, in pista dagli anni Ottanta: ne è stato leader per più di trent’anni e con loro ha venduto più di 25 milioni di dischi. Il solo album «Empire» del 1990 vendette più di tre milioni di copie grazie a hit singoli e tormentoni radiofonici come “Silent Lucidity” e “Jet City Woman”.
La separazione dalla sua band, pochi anni fa, non è stata amichevole. Per portarsi qualcosa di positivo del passato nel nuovo progetto, Tate ha deciso di chiamarlo come uno degli album di maggior successo dei Queensrÿche “Operation: Mindcrime” (uscito nel 1988, disco di platino nel 1991).
Una particolarità del concerto di Trieste: la band eseguirà per intero l’album “Operation: Mindcrime” dei Queensrÿche, il resto della scaletta andrà a pescare dal recente «The Key».
La band Operation: Mindcrime continua nello spirito del glorioso concept del 1988: grande musica e maestoso immaginario, testi concettuali e grande cura dei dettagli.
A settembre è uscito il disco di debutto, «The Key» che è il primo capitolo di quella che è stata annunciata come una trilogia epica da Tate stesso, che dice: “Musicalmente quest’album è piuttosto avventuroso”. Su disco tantissimi grandi nomi hanno affiancato Tate: i bassisti Dave Ellefson [Megadeth, Metal Allegiance] e John Moyer [Disturbed, Adrenaline Mob], i batteristi Simon Wright [AC/DC, Dio], Scott Mercado [Candlebox] e Brian Tichy [Billy Idol, Ozzy Osbourne], i chitarristi Kelly Gray [Queensrÿche] e Scott Moughton [Geoff Tate], i tastieristi Randy Gane [Myth] ed il cantante Mark Daly [The Voodoos]. (Questa la line up dal vivo, che salirà anche sul palco del Miela: Tate, Moyer, Wright, Gray, Moughton, Gane).
Tate tiene a precisare che Operation: Mindcrime non è una semplice band, è un progetto musicale di persone affini unite per raggiungere uno scopo comune.
In apertura di serata ci saranno gli inglesi I.C.O.N che hanno esordito nel 2009 con l’album «New Born Lie», hanno macinato chilometri e concerti e si sono imposti come una delle band metal UK in più rapida ascesa. Quest’estate è uscito il loro secondo disco «The Blacklist». Suonano un puro heavy metal con potenti riffs, con un suono che va dai primi Black Sabbath fino ad una versione più leggera dei Pantera.

The iconic metal vocalist Geoff Tate is universally acknowledged as one of the greatest frontmen in rock and metal, and a driving force behind one of the most innovative bands in mainstream music. He rose to fame in the 1980s with the progressive metal band Queensrÿche (he has sold more than 25 million records with the band he fronted for 30 years; the album «Empire» of 1990, sold more than three million albums on the back of hit singles and radio staples “Silent Lucidity” and “Jet City Woman”).
He named his new project after the Queensrÿche album of the same name, the masterpiece “Operation: Mindcrime” (1988, Platinum in 1991).
Operation: Mindcrime is a creative platform that continues in the spirit of the historic album, spawning concepts as grand as the music.
Their debut album «The Key» (released on September the 18th) is part one of an epic musical trilogy from Geoff Tate; “Musically, this album is quite adventurous”, he says.
Joining Tate on «The Key» are a hard hitting cast of familiar faces and new collaborators: bass players Dave Ellefson [Megadeth, Metal Allegiance] and John Moyer [Disturbed, Adrenaline Mob], drummers Simon Wright [AC/DC, Dio], Scott Mercado [Candlebox] and Brian Tichy [Billy Idol, Ozzy Osbourne], guitarists Kelly Gray [Queensrÿche] and Scott Moughton [Geoff Tate], keyboardist Randy Gane [Myth] and vocalist Mark Daly [The Voodoos]. On this tour the band play songs from «The Key» and also performe the whole 1988’s masterpiece «Operation: Mindcrime».
